So this is actually happening

Its an idea that's been floating in my head for a long time and when I met Lauren it was something I asked her at the very beginning..."will you come travel the world with me?" "Yes!" (nevermind she'd just moved across the country to start a new job, in a new city and had to make new friends)...Fast forward almost 4 years and its happening (I too moved jobs, cities and made new friends)!!

Earlier today I got off the phone with my supervisor who i'm working with on a project in Wellington NZ, i'd been covering his role for a month while he'd been away on annual leave. It probably wasn't the handvoer he'd been expecting as i'd kept our plans pretty quiet given i'm a contractor coming up to the end of my contract. It actually went down pretty well and hopefully there will be something to come back to after our trip.

Mean-while Lauren and I have got a big list of  To Do's on the fridge - 6 weeks before departure and there's a mountain of things to do; ending the lease, packing up the stuff we're keeping, selling the stuff we're not, sorting storage for the car, passports to renew, travel insurance to book and visas to apply for. It's not helping that neither of us have time during the week and only two free weekends to do this all in before we jet off...I'm flying to Perth to see Mum and Dad this weekend and Lauren has a big meeting in Sydney!

More specifically to the trip - the actual specifics of the plan have been quite light. We've booked flights to Bangkok and four nights accommodation with return to Syd from Singapore two months later with an on wards connection to San Fran and onto Mexico (i'm sure this will be a fun 3 days).

I'm sure we'll make a post about how we've managed to do some serious point hacking to get a skeleton of flights to get us around the world for about $1500 but it's taken some serious planning and persuasion and points scabbing to do it.
